Description
Having established themselves as firm seasonal favourites upon their debut in 2020, Tenebrae and Artistic Director Nigel Short return to The Bridgewater Hall with a selection of achingly beautiful musical farewells on Mon 6 Nov as part of this year’s International Concert Series.
Promising a heartrending evening of songs charting the voyage from life to death, and the consuming mystery of whatever may lie beyond, the concert opens with Gustav Holst’s vivid, mournful motet The Evening Watch, before moving through a deeply poignant programme by turns delicate and profound, including Sir John Tavener’s Song for Athene, Richard Rodney Bennett’s tender tribute to Linda McCartney, A Good-Night, Joel Thompson’s A Prayer for Deliverance and Herbert Howell’s inimitable a cappella Requiem, concluding with Sir William Harris’ soaring account of John Donne’s passage into heaven, Bring Us, O Lord.
